Episode 87 - Sean Bloomfield

On today's episode, I had documentary filmmaker and author, Sean Bloomfield. 

Sean joined me on the show to talk about his new film, 'Apparition Hill'. This film is not the normal type of film we would promote on the podcast, but I was intrigued by the premise of the film, and after watching it wanted to talk with Sean to learn more about it. It's not a secret that I'm not a fan of religion, and this film didn't change that at all, but it's overall message and feel was still incredibly fascinating. 

'Apparition Hill' follows seven strangers as they journey to Medjugorje, a small village in Bosnia-Herzegovina, to investigate the reports of miracles and supernatural phenomena's. The seven strangers, comprised of two atheists, a believer, a mom struggling with cancer, a man with ALS, a struggling addict, and a woman questioning her faith. Sean found these people through a video contest he held and picked his seven from there. 

I talked to Sean about how he first learned about Medjugore, what he's learned from the film and from his time on Apparition Hill, the overall message of the film, dealing with cynics, and more. 

'Apparition Hill' is currently playing nationwide, and just opened in New York City yesterday. Check out the links below to learn more about this film and find where it is playing near you. I went into this film a skeptic, and still left as a skeptic, but it still is a film that with an open mind will be interesting to anybody that watches.

Episode 86- A Thanksgiving Foodgasm

Happy Thanksgiving! Today's episode of the podcast is our special Thanksgiving Episode!

I sat down with Jesse Knight and Christopher James while we talked about our all of our Thanksgiving plans. On the episode we also talked about Christopher's attempt at 'No Shave November', Thanksgiving traditions, the things we are NOT thankful for today, Jesse's Viking feast, Christophers face turkey, and so much more.

Episode 85 - Festival Supreme

On today's episode of the podcast, I sat down with Christopher James to talk about the incredible time I had covering this year's Festival Supereme!

I've always wanted to attend Festival Supreme and the show lived up to everything, and so much more than I expected. For those of you that are not familiar with Festival Supreme, it's a music and comedy festival put on by none other than Tenacious D!

Sadly Christopher didn't get to attend the show with me, but he got to enjoy the show vicariously through my Snapchat and Instagram. To say the least, he hated me for at least the eight hours I was at the show.

This year's Festival Supreme had such an incredible lineup, featuring: "Weird Al" Yankovic, Flight of the Conchords, Patton Oswalt, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Eric Andre LIVE!, Garfunkle and Oates, Sarah Silverman, Jenny Slate, and so many more! Christopher and I talked about my incredible experience at the show, as well as meeting two of my biggest idols, "Weird Al" & Fred Armisen.

Episode 84 - I Had A Bad Experience With A Mountain...

On today's episode of the podcast, I sat down with Jesse Knight and Christopher James in our hotel room in Los Angeles to recap our recent week recording shows!

Now that you've spent the last month listening to all of the great episodes with Brandie Posey, Matteen Stewart, Mike Phirman & our Chaplin Episode, we always like to tell you the stories that lead up to these episodes and what happened in between. 

Los Angeles always treats us well, and this time around was no exception. We had such a great time recording the episodes, as well as continuing to explore the city. We talked about our visit to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, hiking to the Hollywood Sign, Christopher almost dying on a mountain, taking Jesse to Amoeba Music, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Comedy Store, and so much more!

Episode 83 - Dan Cummins

On today's episode, I have comedian Dan Cummins!

This is another mashup episode that I do with Christopher James, where the show is half On the Mic and half "In Movie Nerds We Trust". 

We had a great time talking with Dan while he was in Salt Lake City performing at WiseGuys Comedy. Dan has performed on Conan, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Comedy Central! Christopher and I have always been a fan of Dan's comedy and videos and were excited to finally have him on the show. 

On this episode, we talked with Dan about his new album, "Don't Wake the Bear", his new podcast "Timesuck", three of his favorite, movies, and so much more!

Episode 82 - It's a Chaplin Episode

This week's episode of the podcast is a special episode, recorded live on the steps of the old Charlie Chaplin studios in Hollywood!

Christopher James and Jesse Knight join me on the steps of the old Chaplin Studios, now the Jim Henson Studios, to talk about Charlie Chaplin and his films. Jesse and I had discussed recording an episode like this for a while, and with Christopher hosting the "In Movie Nerds We Trust" podcast, we figured this would be the perfect time for a mashup episode. 

In the episode we talked about the great impact that Charlie Chaplin's films had on us as kids and how it first helped grow our love for film and comedy. We talked about how Chaplin's films manage to still relate to events today, as well as the culture impact of his time, his filmmaking process, some of the iconic figures that visited the Chaplin Studios, Chaplin's legacy and more. 

I'm so glad that we were finally able to record this episode on the steps on the Chaplin Studios. Many people don't know that Jesse is a huge Chaplin fan, and being here to talk Chaplin films was really special for Jesse. Chaplin's films have meant a lot to all of us and we would encourage all of you listening to check out the massive collection of Charlie Chaplin's work.

Episode 81 - Mateen Stewart

On today's episode, I have comedian and actor, Mateen Stewart! 

Mateen is a fantastic comic that I've wanted to have on the show for a while now. I was so glad we were finally able to make this happen while Jesse, Christopher and I were in Los Angeles last month. 

We talked to Mateen about growing up in Detriot, making the move to Los Angeles, finding his way to comedy, who his inspirations were, getting into acting, working with Ben Stiller, his new stand up album "Let's Get Mateened", and so much more!

Mateen recently released his new stand up album, "Let's Get Mateened"and we absolutely loved it. Mateen actually recorded the album at 50 West in Salt Lake City, where Christopher actually opened for him. Make sure you go pick his album on iTunes today!

Episode 80 - The Levinson Brothers

On today's episode I have comedy writer and filmmaker, Joel Levinson! 

Joel is part of the comedy writing and production team, The Levinson Brothers, with his brother Stephen. Stephen is best known for his work as a writer on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon & Comedy Central, and Joel has also made appearances on The Tonight Show, The New York Times, and released multiple comedy albums with Stephen. 

I talked with Joel about the film they are currently working on called, "Boy Band: The Heartthrob Story". Boy Band is a musical comedy that follows 90's boy band who was huge 17 years ago, but now that they're fat, balding and less "boyish", they're still trying to have their next hit album. The kickstarter has just 4 days left, and they are trying to raise the final $1000 to get the film made! The film has an incredible and hilarious cast, starring: Steve Agee (New Girl, Guardians of the Galaxy 2), Jordan Carlos (The Nightly Show), Seth Herzog (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) and Dave Hill (@midnight, Comedy Central). 

Aside from the film, I also talked with Joel about growing up with comedy and music, early musical comedy inspirations, how they got started in making films, writing their comedy albums with Rob Kutner (Conan The Daily Show), filmmaking in their hometown and more.

Episode 79 - Mike Phirman

On today's episode, I have comedian and musician, Mike Phirman! 

I first met Mike several years ago at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles and have always wanted to have him on the show. Mike was nice enough to join us at our hotel in Los Angeles to record this episode. We were planning to record this episode at UCB, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to quickly change to our hotel room. 

In the episode, we talked to Mike about growing up in California, discovering Weird Al as a kid, writing comedy songs, creating Hard n' Phirm with Chris Hardwick, performing and recording with Weird Al, drinking at Chucky Cheese, being a dad and raising his kids, writing new music, being the one-man band on the Nerdist TV show, and so much more.

Episode 78 - Brandie Posey

On today's episode, I have comedian, Brandie Posey!

I've wanted to have Brandie on the podcast for several months, but we were never able to make our schedules work until now. Brandie met up with us in Los Angeles to record this new episode of the podcast. This episode is also the first of several of the podcasts we recorded in Los Angeles, featuring Christopher James and Jesse Knight back on the episode.

We talked to Brandie about going to film school in Philadelphia, going to UCB, moving to Los Angeles, learning improv, finding her way to stand up, starting Lady to Lady Podcast, her comedy show "Picture This", working on her new album, "Opinion Cave", and so much more!
